10 Useful Things To Do On Days When You Just Want To Give Up

Life is a bunch of emotions. Sometimes, you feel like you are on top of the world; you feel on top of every situation and everything is panning out easily… but then on other days, everything is going downhill! There are days when nothing goes as planned and you just want to give up.

It might get so bad that you feel like you have no choice but to give up on yourself, your relationship, your dreams, goals, and ambitions, or even your entire life.

Are you in one of those difficult moments in life when you are just about giving up on everything and everyone? Are you wondering why your life seems different from everyone else’s? Be calm. Because it’s not about you and your life. It’s about the nature of this world. Life is not a bed of beautiful roses (even though there are no ugly roses).

Just like there are sunny days, there are always going to be rainy days. But remember, if there was nothing like heavy rain, there wouldn’t be anything like a beautiful rainbow. In other words, there are always two sides to life: pain and pleasure.

Life will certainly throw all sorts of things at you. Some might make you happy, others will make you completely worn out. But the most important thing is your reaction to such situations – the steps you finally choose to take during those moments when you just want to give up. Those are key moments when a lot of things about your life will be determined.

What To Do When You Want To Give Up

With that said, we could all use a little help with going through such tough times. Here are 10 things you should do when you want to give up and life just seems hopeless.

    1. Determine Why You Want to Give Up

Before you can ever find a solution to a problem, the first step to take is to find out the cause. Before prescribing a cure, you have to diagnose first! This approach is pretty reliable both in medicine and in every other sphere of life.

When you are contemplating quitting, the first thing you should ask yourself is, “Why am I giving up so easily?” It’s after you find out “why” that you’ll understand “how” to tackle the problem.

There are many possible reasons we tend to give up on our missions, ambitions or even people. But those reasons are usually centered on one thing; discomfort. We mainly give up once the pain, distress, or suffering becomes seemingly unbearable. It’s understandable though — because we humans are naturally wired to crave comfort.

Nobody sees pleasure and prefers pain! We all want to be in a place where we feel comfortable. But unfortunately, that’s far from what life offers us. While we savor pleasure, we can’t escape the traces of pain that come with it.

Once you know the central reason you are giving up so easily, you have to toughen up and face the world squarely.

    2. Remember The Reason You Started And Where You Are Headed

A young man once narrated what motivates him. In his words:

“I’m a self-employed who is struggling to take his career to the next level. At times, I chase a deal for months but to no avail. Sometimes, I spend many weeks without a single income. Other times, life hit me so hard that I just want to give up. But one thing that keeps me going is whenever I remember where I’m coming from and where I’m headed… Whenever I remember how much my mom, dad, and siblings count on me, I just can’t stop.”

This story exemplifies the power of knowing where you are coming from and where you are going. That’s exactly what you should think of on days you just want to give up.

    3. Remember It Usually Gets Worse Before It Gets Better

Life is a mystery. Sometimes it works in ways you don’t really understand. Life is also about balance. You can tell because there are always two ways to everything; whenever you think of darkness, there is light. Whenever you think of nights, there are days. And when you feel so cold, you expect warmth.

When you feel like giving up, always remember that it is usually darkest before dawn. Remember, life is neither all about sadness nor happiness. So, you can be assured that your good day is just around the corner — even in your darkest moments.

While you keep striving, also retrace your steps, try out new things, adopt a different approach. Push on.

    4. Be Realistic With Your Expectations

Life is tough already. But then don’t make it tougher by holding on to unrealistic expectations.

One of the greatest things that aggravate the pressure we’re already in is our expectations. I mean; why wouldn’t you be under pressure when you often listen to people that claim perfection? Why wouldn’t the pressure be too much on you when you only patronize ideas that promise quick results? Why wouldn’t you find it difficult to cope when you only hang out with people who give no room for mistakes?

You see, things will be easier if you become more realistic with what you seek and the result you expect. Only listen to people who have been through your present situation; people who are familiar with your reality.

Pay attention to people who understand that it is okay to fail, then rise again. Listen to those who understand that the journey will be long and tough at times. With such people around you, your expectations will be more realistic and you’ll stop being unnecessarily hard on yourself.

    5. Take It One Step At A Time

Another reason you probably feel like giving up is because you are overwhelmed by all sorts of ideas regarding how to make things better. When you keep getting lots of possible solutions into your head, they become difficult to apply, and consequently, you end up being frustrated.

If you are in this kind of situation, the best solution is to take it one step at a time. Trying too many things at a time will only get you worked up and confused. Hence, in whatever you do, endeavor to simplify.

Concentrate on the basic aspects of life that matter most. For instance, instead of beating yourself up that you are not doing enough to satisfy your partner the way they want, you can simply concentrate on loving them genuinely. Because the basis of every relationship is love.

    6. Practice Gratitude

On those days when you just want to give up, look back to — let’s say, five years ago — and remember how far you’ve come. Be grateful for the little success you’ve attained. Trust me, not everyone has been so fortunate. So be thankful and appreciate yourself a little more.

Think about all the rivers you’ve crossed (okay maybe not literally), all you’ve achieved, and all you’ve learned over the years. Is it worth throwing all those things away by giving up?

    7. Be Inspired; Be Motivated

This is a little trick that works wonders.

Motivation – it’s everywhere. It’s up to you to select your source.

For instance, your motivation could be the birds of the air that have no one to depend on, yet they survive. Your motivation could be the deep blue oceans with neither beginning nor end, yet they have direction.

You can also be inspired by someone else’s story. You can access such stories by reading motivational books, watching motivational videos, listening to related podcasts, and so on. Using motivational reminders can go a long way to keep your passion and drive alive. And of course, that’s exactly what you need whenever life seems tricky.

    8. Seek Support

Yes, it’s okay to seek help! Don’t feel uncomfortable to seek support when the burden seems too overwhelming. Don’t disconnect yourself from others or conceal your feelings of frustration. Remember, a problem shared, they say, is a problem half-solved.

Reach out to your friends,  family, colleagues, co-workers, or any other person you can confidently talk to so you can ease yourself a bit and clear your mind from what is pulling you down. You never know, they might even end up giving you the inspiration you need to get back up.

    9. Take A Break

Okay so recently, your life has been chaotic. You are as confused as confusion itself! And now, you are thinking of quitting entirely. Well, before you proceed, let me ask; have you considered taking a break — let’s say for a few weeks or a couple of months — then get back and try again?

Often, the reason you feel like giving up is because you worked so hard to the extent that you forgot to take a break. Self-care should be made a fundamental part of your life because fatigue is very real.

That little time you couldn’t give yourself for rest could end up costing you days or weeks (of work) in the hospital.

    10. Think About The Consequences Of Quitting

Finally, before you give up, think about the consequences of quitting! Many superstars you know today failed many times, but they never gave up. They kept pressing!

Before you quit, remember Walt Disney who was fired by a magazine firm because he allegedly “lacked imagination and had no good ideas”. If he had given up on his dreams, he wouldn’t have become the founder of the famous Disney business.

Before you quit, think about the possible bright future you are also throwing away. The aftermath of quitting is a failed dream.

Do you still want to give up?

Quitting should never be an option as long as you know where you are coming from and where you’re going.

9 Powerful Ways To Stop Being Judgmental Of Others

Being judgmental; we all have it in us. I mean, is there anyone who can come out boldly and say they have never judged someone else at some point? Heck, they probably didn’t even realize it. But we should all strive to improve ourselves, and learning how to stop being judgmental of others is one way we can all learn to be a bit better.

You’ve probably found yourself sometimes criticizing someone for what you think is unfair, immoral, or unjust — without placing yourself in their shoes.

Most times, we fail to get all the necessary details before passing those judgments. Other times, we lay the blame as if we are perfect. Spoiler alert, nobody is!

Being judgmental is not only about what we say to others but also about how we treat them (via our actions). For instance, have you ever avoided someone because you think they’re a bad person? Have you ever boycotted an event simply because you think it’s for “people of lower social status”?

Then truth be told, you’re judgmental in both cases. Even without uttering a word, you already judged them for their personality and social status respectively.

It is quite unhealthy to blame, criticize, downplay, or mock other people simply because you think they’re not any better. And if you are mixed up in that habit, you need to key into this article to stop being judgmental.

Judging others is morally, socially, and emotionally undermining. Remember, when you judge others for their wrongdoing, you are not even helping them to become better, you’re only causing them more pain.

So, instead of passing those harsh judgments, learn to be more friendly and advisory. Instead of being too quick to criticize and blame people, learn to be more inquisitive and empathetic. Understand why they are the way they are… place yourself in their shoes!

With that said, here are 9 practical ways to stop being judgmental:

    1. Understand That No One Is Perfect

Show me a person who is entirely free of mistakes and I will show you the greatest pretender of our era. It’s simple, we all make mistakes. It’s unavoidable.

As long as you’re a human, you have your deficiencies — that’s a fact. So being too quick to point out other people’s mistakes isn’t the right thing to do. No wonder a popular quote has it that “he who is sinless should throw the first stone”.

Instead of judging others for their shortcomings, you have to be more understanding. And the first thing you should understand is; just like the person you are judging, you (and literally everyone) aren’t perfect. We all have our shortcomings.

    2. Judge Yourself Not Others

The best way to refrain from the habit of judging others is to understand that there are lots of things we can judge ourselves for.

Instead of judging others, focus on your inadequacies, and try to become a better person yourself. This will help you to discover more of your weaknesses and less of others. This way, it will be easier for you to fix yourself.

    3. Show More Empathy

Becoming more empathetic is arguably the biggest step you have to take if you want to stop being judgmental. The world will be a better place if, instead of judging others, you put yourself in their positions and imagine how it feels to be in their shoes.

The moment you start showing more empathy towards people, your viewpoint about them will change. You will be more engrossed with sympathy than you are engrossed with blames, hence, you won’t judge them!

    4. Correct Them Instead Of Criticizing

It’s far more honorable to be the reason why someone knew better than to be the reason why they gave up on themselves. Many critics see criticism as a way to help people become better at whatever they do.

While this is not entirely wrong, often, criticism is more destructive than constructive! Criticism doesn’t work for everyone. Some people were forced to work harder and prove their critics wrong. But many others who faced criticism simply gave up because they felt judged and were left devastated.

If you want a reliable way to make people grow and get better, then instead of throwing criticism around, simply correct them and show them the right way to go about things.

People do not get devastated by correction. It is also unlikely for someone to quit because you corrected them… but the same cannot be said about criticism. This is because a correction is constructive, but criticism is destructive.

So, if you want to stop being judgmental, learn to be more constructive and less destructive — correct people instead of criticizing them.

    5. Be More Inquisitive!

Instead of being inclined to judge others, be more determined to know them a little more. Don’t be in a rush to make conclusions about people. Don’t be too quick to condemn or blame people.

Instead, learn to spend more time getting to know and appreciate them better. Do not be aggressive to them. Approach them, chat with them, and listen to their stories so you can understand their lives better.

When you know people deeper and understand their entire story, you will realize that they’re not really what you think they are.

    6. Mind Your Business

Life, generally, will be much easier and straightforward if we are all determined to mind our business! A lot of the problems in the world could be solved if we learn to focus on ourselves.

“Be so focused on being happy, improving yourself, and being better than the person you were yesterday that you hardly realize what’s going on with other people around you… In short, mind your business”. ~Dru Edmund Kucherera

When you’re busy analyzing other people’s lives and looking for their imperfections, your time and energy will be drained and you’ll be less productive in life. Therefore, learn to mind your business — it pays a whole lot (maybe not cash, but you get it).

    7. Stop Hating On Them

One of the main reasons people judge others is that they’re filled with hate. When people despise others, they tend to see only their dark sides. They pick out faults and have lots of ill conclusions to make about them.

If you truly plan to stop being judgmental of others, you have to get rid of the hatred in your heart. Be kind to people, so you may see their light. Be friendly so you may see their good sides and refrain from judging them.

    8. Stay Humble

Another factor that propels people to be judgmental in nature is Pride. When you are so full of yourself, all you will see in others is their weaknesses.

If you are going to desist from judging people, then you have to stay humble and learn to accept and treat everyone as equals.

    9. Stop The Jealousy And Envy

Being judgmental can also be as a result of severe jealousy and envy. When someone is envious, they feel very uncomfortable with the idea that someone else is better than them. Hence, they will do everything possible to bring them down. Whether it takes being critical or judgmental.

So, stop it — just stop.

In addition to this list of ways to stop being judgmental, I’d like to conclude with; allow love to lead.

With love, you will neither degrade nor judge others.

How To Stop Wasting Time And Become Productive

Time waits for nobody. It literally flies and never stops flying. The best we can do is maximize the usage of time because whatever we do with our time is strictly up to us. Today I want to share some tips on how to stop wasting time and become more productive.

One dangerous fact about time is that wasted time is like a deficit to your destiny. Because that time you wasted is gone and can NEVER be replaced. That amount of time you squandered procrastinating and being unproductive is like a void that must be filled.

All those undone tasks, uninitiated projects, unfinished businesses, and unachieved goals are still there waiting for you to take responsibility and get them done — but time will never wait for you, it keeps ticking. And before you know it, you will run out of time to make things happen.

The importance of time management and productivity cannot be overemphasized. But unfortunately, many of us suck at it. That’s why we always struggle to maintain a high level of productivity.

It’s pretty normal for the average person to get a bit sluggish at times, after all, we can’t possibly be at our best every day. But then making it a habit to stay unproductive is just unreasonable.

When you procrastinate and spend unproductive time watching Netflix all day, scrolling through your social media, and failing to adopt practical steps towards achieving your goals, you are only limiting yourself from being productive and reaching your full potential.

How to stop wasting time and be productive

Being productive simply means making the most of your time! It doesn’t necessarily mean “doing a lot of things”. You can actually be all over the place, carrying out lots of tasks, but in the end, you’re still not productive.

You simply don’t have to do so much in order to consider yourself efficient, you just have to do what matters.

Funny enough, when you always do a lot, chances are you are mostly doing stuff that doesn’t matter. After all, there are actually very few things that matter in life. And without focusing on those few things, you won’t be productive.

But…all hope is not lost because in this article, I will be focusing on how to stop wasting time and become productive. If you actually apply these tips I’m sure you will see a positive change in your life.

    Follow Me on Pinterest

    1. Develop A Productive Mindset

The mind is a very powerful tool that can be used to foster transformation. Every movement towards change starts from the mind.

Depending on your mindset, you’re either heading towards success or failure. So, if you are going to be productive, your mindset must be improved to the point where it operates optimally. There is no way you’ll procrastinate or spend your precious time on frivolities if you are positive as a person. Instead, making the most of your time will be your priority.

When you have the right mentality, there won’t be anything like a difficult task, rather, there can only be important tasks. As a result, you won’t hesitate to get things done, because it’s “important” to do so.

Moreover, there are certain ingredients you really need to fix into your thought process if you are really going to learn how to stop wasting time and become productive as an individual. Examples are:

    • Vision: You need to have a dream before you even get started with setting those goals.
    • Motivation: This element is quite important to maintain your pace towards achieving your goals.
    • Persistence: You need to have a strong will to overcome any difficulty you might face.
    • Positive Attitude: Finally, your attitude is who you are. It can make or mar the whole procedure in life. You need to embrace a positive attitude in order to be productive.

    2. Set Goals

To be efficient in whatever you do, you have to get clear on what you want to achieve, and the best way to create such clarity is by setting goals.

Without a goal, you are more like a traveler who is eager to embark on a journey but then has no destination, no compass, and no map! Trust me, going on such a journey is the easiest way to get lost!

The same thing is applicable to you if you don’t have any goal — you will never be productive and will never arrive at your desired destination (success).

With goals, you have a sense of purpose and direction!

However, when setting those goals, also give yourself a deadline to achieve them because deadlines give you a sense of urgency to get things done as fast as possible. Consequently, there won’t be unnecessary time wastage.

    3. Take It One Step At A Time — Stop Multitasking

As I mentioned earlier, productivity is not about doing lots of things, but about making the most of your time by doing what matters.

Seriously, you don’t have to multitask in order to be productive. You just have to take things little by little. Any little step you take towards achieving your goals is actually an act of productivity. You don’t necessarily have to beat yourself up in order to feel useful.

Most of us have this belief that multitasking helps us to save time and stay productive, but that’s really a misconception.

According to a study, the average human brain cannot fully focus when multitasking. And as a result, it takes much more time to complete your tasks. Besides, when you multitask, you are likely to make a lot of mistakes. This is the opposite of being productive don’t you think?

    4. Apply The Pareto Principle

The “Pareto principle”, also known as the “80-20 rule” states that 80% of outcomes come from 20% of efforts. This principle simply recommends that you focus on the efforts that bring greater outcomes!

In other words, if you want to be productive with the limited time at your disposal, you have to figure out and concentrate on that special task which, when completed, will go a long way to bring you closer to achieving your ultimate goals.

    5. Start With The Most Difficult And Important Tasks

According to Brian Tracy, if you must eat two frogs, start with the ugliest!

It’s pretty common to fall for the temptation of starting with easier chores — well, Brian Tracy suggests that you should totally avoid this temptation if you want to achieve your end goals. Start by outlining those difficult tasks. If possible, write them down in their order of importance.

    Here is a representation:

    • Important and urgent (1st)
    • Important but not urgent (2nd)
    • Urgent but not important (3rd)
    • Not urgent and not important (Last)

Ranking your tasks in this manner is very important as it will give you a clue on which one to tackle first. But then, you must discipline yourself to stick to this order and avoid the temptation of starting with simple chores.

Plus, once you determine the most difficult tasks, you have to get started immediately. Because the more you sit and stare at those “dirty jobs”, the more they scare the hell out of you. Consequently, you might even end up procrastinating (as usual).

If you start off with those rigorous tasks, your confidence will be boosted by the time you are faced with easier tasks. In fact, you will be motivated to get more things done — and pretty fast.

    6. Be Conscious Of Time

No matter how good you think you are when it comes to time management, once you start keeping track of how you spend every minute, you’ll be amazed by the amount of time you waste doing absolutely nothing!

In order to learn how to stop wasting time, you have to be time-conscious. It’s as simple as that. There is no way you can tell if you’re consuming too much time when you don’t make a deliberate effort to take note of what you do with time and what you don’t.

Now, to be more time-conscious, and to make the most of your time, ask yourself these questions:

    • What would I do if I had more time today?
    • What are the obstacles I face that prevent me from making the most of my time?
    • In what ways can I overcome these obstacles?
    • What steps should I take to be in perfect control of my schedule?
    • What are the tasks I seem to carry out effectively in the morning?
    • Which chores do I do better in the afternoon and at night?
    • What are the tasks that are too time-consuming?
    • What tasks should I delegate to other people?

    7. Make Your Chores Part of a Routine

How do you feel when your duties are more like everyday routines? Pretty normal right? Well, another way to simplify things and manage your time effectively is by routinizing your daily tasks. Having a routine not only makes things feel a lot easier but also makes your decisions come much faster.

To create the best possible routine, you have to establish a schedule starting from your top priorities to the very least. Carefully plan your day in such a way that it will be possible to keep track of all the events you have for each day.

As part of your routine, constantly revisit your to-do list to see how far you’ve progressed. The joy you derive when your progress is massive will motivate you to do more!

One good thing about routinizing your tasks is that it makes you more organized and calculated. Moreover, you will be one step ahead of time because you’re already aware of what to expect each day — even the day before.

    8. Learn To Say No To What Doesn’t Matter

One common weakness most of us have is the ability to say NO when we should. Knowing how to stop wasting time is, in fact, knowing how to start saying NO to things that don’t matter.

And just so you know, anything that doesn’t add up to achieving your end-goal shouldn’t matter to you.

When you fail to pinpoint and ignore the things that really don’t matter, you will continue to patronize those things that are not in line with your goals… Then, you keep wasting your time and in the end, you will struggle to achieve your end goals.

    9. Delegate Your Tasks

Hi there, human. It is high time you realized that you can’t do it all alone. At times, you might actually need help!

When you feel like your responsibilities are becoming overwhelming, you have to delegate some of them to your trusted friends, family, or any other person around you.

If you want to make the most of your time, there is no need to struggle so much with one task until you’re stuck — seek help from someone who knows better than you in that field. It does not make you weak or dull… in fact, it makes you super smart because it implies you know how to manage your time!

It’s normal to feel stuck at times. And it’s okay to get confused and not know the way forward. It simply means you are human and you need help. And trust me, we all need help at some point in life.

Therefore, don’t hesitate to ask for assistance if you really want to become more efficient.

    1. She understands that she is not perfect

All humans have a tendency to make mistakes, and a confident woman knows and acknowledges this fact. This provides a platform for bold steps such as taking on new risks, a new job or facing any situation without having to worry about whether the turnout would be perfect or not.

You should mainly focus on giving your best shot to whatever you do and if you need help, do not feel belittled or threatened; ask for help. What possible damage would it cost to ask for help?

    2. She admits her flaws

This tails onto number one. Owing to the fact that she acknowledges she is not perfect, a confident woman is able to own her actions/ choices and admit that she made a mistake whenever the need arises.

As a confident woman, you should be able to apologize for your mistakes without trying to shift the blame or give excuses for it. More importantly, you must always be ready to take corrective action. Put aside that ego of yours so that you can learn from your mistakes.

    3. A confident woman does not hold on to past mistakes

Having apologized for her mistakes, she releases every guilt she might have had with that situation. She understands that mistakes are meant to make her grow and are not something to hold on to.

Guilt is a temporary emotion that is supposed to pave the way for breakthroughs; through corrections from past failures. Guilt from your past mistakes shouldn’t hinder you from taking a step into the next opportunity that might come your way. Learn to move on. A confident woman sees every failure as an opportunity to grow, to expand her horizon.

Also, you should know that life is not a bed of roses, and you might hurt or be hurt by others in the future. This should not stop you from moving forward. In the wake of adversity, persevere. If possible, try to make enough provisions for those kinds of situations. Learn to let go and do not make it too personal by taking it to heart. Be ready to forgive yourself and let go of the past.

    4. She is a good listener

Another important trait of confident women is that they take time to listen to people. It might seem like talking more or being a good orator is the ideal trait of a confident woman. Yes, it is part of it but do well not to underestimate the power of confidence in silence.

A confident woman knows better than to ignore the constructive criticism of others. She might choose to apply what she has heard or decline it, but she makes sure she listens first.

    Traits Of Confident Women

    5. She does not conform

In the previous trait listed, a confident woman listens to others but doesn’t allow it to define who she is. She knows what she wants, listens to people’s criticisms and then decides whether it is useful to her or not.

It will help if you do not rely on the praises of people to feel good. Have a mind of your own and do not conform to the sheer desires of others just because you want to be liked. Be aware of the fact that you cannot please everyone.

Whether or not you do what is right or wrong, some people would still complain. Why then stress yourself trying to please everyone? Doing this is definitely a sure way to failure. Instead, acknowledge the fact that you are a unique personality and you shouldn’t compare yourself with other women.

    6. A confident woman knows when to say NO

A confident woman does not make promises beyond her capabilities nor does she over commit. You should know your boundaries and be able to say NO when the situation is not according to what you can make provision for. It’s pretty simple – just say no.

Do not over-commit and end up under-delivering. It would be a stain on your white clothing because you would become a person no one can rely on. Too many commitments are not favorable for your all-round health. Learn to say no.

    7. She practices self-love

If you do not take care of yourself, you would get exhausted and ultimately, frustrated. Every confident woman knows better than to stress herself trying to please others or overwork herself at her detriment.

Take a break, make out time for yourself, take a trip alone, eat well, exercise well. For maximum productivity, you need to be in the perfect state of health. Health is wealth, and it should never be underestimated.

    8. She chooses her friends wisely

There is a saying that goes thus “show me your friend and I will tell you who you are”. Most people say it but hardly apply it to their lives. A confident woman understands that her circle of friends plays a huge role in shaping her mindset and personality as a whole, so she is cautious when choosing her friends and not the other way around. Choose positive, like-minded friends who share similar goals with you and are always ready to hold and pull you up whenever it feels like you are drowning.

    9. She is not complacent

One of the most essential traits of confident women is that they are never satisfied with being stagnant. A confident woman outdoes herself in everything and everywhere she finds herself. She goes out of her comfort zone to gain more knowledge.

Be more industrious, read wide and deep; discover yourself. What is that talent you have? What field of study do you have interest in? Love dancing, why not go professional? Playing the instruments? Go for it. Who knows? You might just be the next big thing. Even the little things you count insignificant, they all matter. You would be amazed at what you can actually do. Success is intentional; see it and be it.

    10. She doesn’t try to be everything

In as much as she is not complacent, a confident woman doesn’t try to be everything. You might want to be industrious, move out from your comfort zone and all, but you should also know when to stop.

Do not try to take on a lot of things at once. It is better to be a master of one than to be a jack of all trades. It would also give you time to perfect the skills you have already acquired and even break new grounds in your current field.

    11. She uses positive words

Positive words have a very massive impact on your day and you as a person. Using positive words would shape your mindset towards having a better day in the end, even though there might be ups and downs. Speak positive affirmations to yourself. It could be a prayer or a motivational quote, or probably, just a soothing word – say it regularly!

A confident woman uses her words to build up not only herself but also other people.

    12. Confident women set clear goals and take actions on them

Setting goals is one of the must-have traits of confident women. This acts as a guide for her and helps to cut down unnecessary activities that can deviate her from her goals. It is one thing to set goals and another to take action on them.

Unless you take action on your goals, they will remain a mere dream. So, while setting your goals, do well to put the necessary measures in place. Ask yourself what you want to achieve in the next two months and the steps you would take to attain your goal. Now, could you write it down? Put it where you can access it daily, maybe close to your bedside and read it out clearly and loudly every day. Yes, it’s this easy, you are becoming confident already!

    13. She understands her strengths and weaknesses

Understanding your personality and what works best for you is a plus. It helps you plan your day, guide you on how to take actions on your goals, keeps you healthy and most importantly, helps you perform to the best of your abilities.

For instance, if you tend to assimilate better at night, then you should read more at night, rather than wasting your whole day with a book and getting nothing while you could have used it for a more productive activity.

    14. A confident woman can take care of herself financially

Being financially savvy is a fundamental trait of confident women. To be a confident woman, you should be able to stand on your own even if there is no financial support from others. Your partner might prefer to take care of most financial expenditures, but at least, you should be able to take care of the main payments. You do not have to be totally financially dependent on anyone.

However, it isn’t just about making money, as most people are already thinking. The main issue here is managing the money…Financial intelligence. Acquire it.

    15. She is not desperate for attention

This is often one of the overlooked traits of confident women.

You do not always have to be the center of attraction. This does not mean you are introverted or running away from the public. It just shows that you are mature enough to let others have that spotlight, and you are also confident because you know that people’s attention doesn’t determine your worth/ value.

    Final Thoughts

You too can adopt these traits of a confident woman!

To crown it all, you should have it in mind that the confident women are not necessarily the prettiest, the slimmest, or the most influential/ successful. They are considered as confident women because they disciplined themselves, had a goal in mind and worked towards it while using the constructive criticism of others to build themselves in ways that made them outstanding.

Confident women never use people’s opinions as a yardstick to measure their self-worth. They understand what it means to be financially savvy, and to be surrounded by positively, like-minded friends, as well as knowing the right situations to say no. And they see the value of self-love, positive words.

They do not try to be everything at once. They have clear goals and follow-up actions they are ready to take to attain their goal. Learning is a constant trait, and they understand that they are not perfect; hence they admit their flaws and make appropriate corrections when necessary.

Also, as I said earlier, you shouldn’t beat yourself up if you feel you do not have all of these traits of a confident woman. In fact, if you could read this to the end, you are already on the right track!

The next step is to take action on these outlined traits, adopt them, and you sure are good to go.

Go and become a confident woman!

  • How To Take Responsibility For Your Life And Stop Making Excuses

How To Take Responsibility For Your Life And Stop Making Excuses

Living an intentional life is not always easy. Nowadays, it’s pretty uncommon to come across people who take responsibility for their lives.

The average human will always come up with excuses as to why something happened or why it didn’t. Well, that is a bad sign.

You shouldn’t resort to blame when you fail in a particular endeavour… if you do, it simply indicates that you’re not owning up to your life. You are giving away your power to bring about change.

Yes, you might have failed once, but the fact remains that you are responsible. So you don’t blame others. Rather, change!

Blames and excuses make you powerless. Just like a toothless dog that only barks but cannot bite. When you blame your downfall on somebody or something, you will stay down. But when you take responsibility for your downfall, you will be motivated to stand up and do it right!

Taking responsibility for your life basically means you are fully in charge of what happens in your life.

When you are responsible for your life, you won’t be the lucky man who attained success by chance. Or the unlucky woman who failed in life because of ill fate.

A responsible life is an intentional life. It’s not a life of excuses. To take responsibility for your life means that no one has the right to define how or what your life will turn out to be. Not even your family, friends, or partner – only you can.

If success is what you really crave for, then taking responsibility for your destiny is what you should do. And on the other hand, you should be allergic to excuses and blames.

But the main point now is; how? How do you take this responsibility? How do you start owning your life? How do you stop living a life of excuses and blames?

Well, you’ll find out soon enough!

But before then, let’s get clear on the difference between self-blame and taking responsibility.

Taking Responsibility for Your Life VS Blaming Yourself; Any Difference?

Okay, let me make this clear; to take responsibility for your life doesn’t mean to blame yourself. It simply means being on top of any situation. It means being in charge of whatever happens in your life.

The whole essence of “responsibility” is that it gives you the power to determine outcomes.

For instance, when you are performing poorly at work, and you decide to take responsibility for that, then you have the power to control the situation. You have the capacity to initiate change. You will be motivated to work better. And consequently, you’ll start having better results.

But if you blame yourself in a similar situation, you will be dispirited, demoralized, and utterly disappointed. At the end of the day, you’ll resort to self-resentment. Low self-esteem will be next in line… And before you realise it, you’re depressed!

Just so you know, “blame” is simply negative. Whether you’re blaming others or yourself. Self-blame is destructive. It will never make you… it will only mar you.

So, stop blaming yourself and start taking responsibility!

Here’s how to take responsibility for your life:

    1. Stop Blaming Others

Like I said earlier, once it comes to “blame”, it’s a no-no. It’s understandable, life can be unfair at times. Sometimes, it might SEEM like you’re helpless… But, are you really helpless? Even if you are, will blaming other people solve the problem? I think not.

The best result that “blaming others” will yield you is the liberty to play the victim card. Your only bragging right will be to preach victimhood. Or maybe you’d also be able to justify failure…

But then, does that really help? Sadly, no, it doesn’t. Moreover, just like you will hate yourself when you blame yourself, you will also feel bitterness towards others when you blame them for your misfortunes.

Of course, with such resentment and bitterness, you will never feel happy as a person. Plus, that person you despise so much might be happy wherever he is.

A wise man once told a short story. According to him, a Saint was asked; what’s the meaning of hatred? The Saint replied; hatred is the act of intentionally suffering for another person’s sins.

This implies that blaming and hating others will only really hurt you. Even when those you are hating on are doing just fine.

Remember, blaming simply incapacitates you. You are just a powerless person if you keep blaming without taking responsibility for any given situation in your life.

    2. Stop The Flimsy Excuses

If you want to take responsibility for your life, then you also need to stop making flimsy excuses. You’ll agree with me that making excuses is like a culture for many people. It’s pretty common.

At some point in life, most of us had excuses.

Some of these common excuses are:

    • I couldn’t start the business because I had little money.
    • I didn’t get the job because the hiring team was corrupt.
    • I failed the examination because the teacher was just evil.
    • I was never destined to succeed.
    • I always have bad luck…

I can continue to list the excuses… they’re just too numerous. However, those excuses are all flimsy. They hold no water.

Take for instance, that examination you failed, you would have passed it if you took responsibility and prepared better.

And yes, successful people DON’T easily give up on their business ideas just because they lack the start-up funds. They find ways to generate the money they need… They don’t give excuses!

Moreover, successful people don’t believe strictly in destiny, they believe in smart and hard work. They also believe in possibilities. So, they won’t give excuses like; I am not destined to… whatever.

If you are still living in excuses, just know that you cannot take a decisive step forward. You will remain where you are because you always have an excuse to belong there.

Excuses mainly give you reasons why you shouldn’t take responsibility for your life. You feel justified to be a failure when you have excuses for failing!

And with that kind of attitude, you won’t learn from your mistakes. It’s simply a negative way of life. Having excuses. Nothing is positive about it.

Once you are able to eliminate excuses, you will find it easier to take responsibility.

    Take Responsibility For Your Life

    3. Live In The Moment

In order to be in total control of what happens in your life, you must start living in this very moment – not in the past or in the future – but NOW.

When you live in the moment, you will have the awareness and empowerment that will help you engender the change you need.

A popular quote has it that; Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is yet to come, but today is a GIFT, that’s why it’s called PRESENT.

One of the greatest gifts you have is now. And what you do “now” is entirely up to you. So, what are you doing now? Are you taking the necessary actions to bring about change? Or are you blaming others? Or making excuses? Or dwelling in the past? Or just hoping in the future?

It’s simple, if you want to be successful, live in the moment, and take responsibility NOW.

    4. Love Yourself

One reason you’re not taking full responsibility for your life may be the lack of self-love. When you don’t love yourself you won’t trust your abilities and it will bring about low self-esteem.

In order to feel better, you will resort to blaming others for your failures. You will always give excuses for your actions and inactions. It’s because you don’t trust yourself enough.

If you love yourself, you will trust yourself enough to take up new challenges. You will believe that you can handle any given situation you find yourself in.

You won’t wait for people’s validation or praises in order to feel good about yourself or your achievements. Your self-esteem will be built within you, not outside you (by others).

In a nutshell, you’ll be more fulfilled and happier if you love yourself. And as a result, taking responsibility for your life won’t be a problem.

    5. Take Care Of Yourself

Start by checking your daily habits. What are your activities like? Do you work so hard without having a little rest?

How much exercise do you give your body? How do you feed? Do you depend on junk? Do you drink alcohol in excess?

If your daily activities don’t help your entire wellbeing, then your life will be a mess. And it’s more difficult to take responsibility for your life if you’re already messed up.

Taking responsibility for your life simply starts with taking care of your body, your mind, and your needs.

    6. Take Charge Of Your Emotions

If you really want to master your life then you have to master your emotions.

Remember, your attitude is often a product of how you feel. And your emotions determine your feelings. Therefore, your emotions determine your attitude.

Sometimes, you are happy. And it reflects in your attitude towards life. That’s as a result of positive emotions. However, the truth is that we’re all bound to experience negative emotions as well. Not only the positive ones.

At some point in life, you will generally feel bad. It’s normal. And as an individual who takes responsibility, you should be able to understand that negative emotions are only a part of your life you can control.

If you are able to fully take responsibility for your emotions – whether positive or negative – then you will live a balanced life.

Just so you know, an individual who can’t control his emotions can never take charge of his life. He will only act based on his emotions. And as a result, he will always regret his actions.

Imagine if someone hurts you real bad and you can’t control your emotions…  You might even end up hurting the person really bad!

Or imagine if someone makes you happy, and you can’t control your emotions, you might just as well sell your entire property just to express your happiness (allow me to exaggerate a bit).

In both cases, you will end up regretting your actions… Because you allowed your emotions to get the better of you.

    7. Only Say What You Can Do

Yes! You have to ONLY say what you can do.

Being a responsible person also entails being an individual with integrity. You can’t claim you are responsible for your life when we can’t even trust your words. You are simply not responsible if you can’t fulfil your promises.

I mean, have you ever done business with someone who agrees on an appointment and never shows up?

Someone who takes a loan and fails to meet the deadline?

Someone who will agree to certain terms and conditions and later breach the contract?

Well, if you’ve ever met such a person, then you will agree with me that they are simply not credible. They are obviously not responsible enough.

    Final Thoughts

Finally, it is always vital for every individual to be responsible. As a matter of fact, the world will be a better place if it harbours only people who take responsibility for their lives. Okay so this is a bit of wishful thinking, but it would be pretty great right.

In such a world, things will simply be a lot easier because most people will be easy-going.

This is because people who take responsibility for their lives don’t complain much, they only focus on taking positive actions. Think about how much value you can add to your life and the people around you simply by being intentional about everything you do, without making any excuses whatsoever!

    1. Make Purposeful Living Your Niche

Knowing your life purpose is the first step toward living a truly conscious life. A life of purpose provides us with a clear goal, a set finish line that you truly want to reach. ~Simon Foster

The foremost habit to emulate as a girl boss is living purposefully everyday. Like I said, it’s easy for you to just run through all the 10 habits listed out here and try to live up to them, but guess what? Without a driving force, it won’t last.

Your thoughts, actions and every day decision making should be tied to your purpose. It should be your driving force in life. Being a girl boss means living with intentions. Now the question is, do you have a purpose? Don’t just pass time or live everyday as it comes – live intentionally. Be purposeful, be a girl boss!

    2. Have A Plan And Stick To It

I’m sure you aspire to make one, two or all of your dreams come true. Either long term or short term, achieving a goal requires that you have a plan on how to go about it.

For instance, if your goal is to improve your grades from third class to 1st class by the end of the academic year, ensuring you go for classes and studying more extensively is great then to achieve such goals.

However, don’t just create plans, stick to them. It might be hard but it’s not impossible.  No matter what the outcome is, at the end you will be fulfilled and super proud you made an effort. Always remember, you can do whatever you put your mind to.

If you plan to make it happen and stick to that plan, come what may, it will happen. Sticking to a goal plan is one of the best girl boss habits that will change your life for good.

    3. Be An Early Bird

Being an early bird is not just about waking up early in the morning, it’s also about completing tasks within the stipulated time frame, being on time for scheduled meetings and events and also meeting up with work deadlines.

However, all these will be seldom possible if you start off your day wishing you can use the time machine, put the alarm clock on snooze or even speed off to another adventure in Dreamland. That’s certainly a grumpy kick-start for a girl boss.

Now is definitely not the time to dread the early morning blues. Waking up as early as possible in the morning has got loads of benefits that come with it.  It helps you to be mentally alert, have a productive day and reduces your stress levels.

To make this bag of goodies hers, a girl boss ensures she sleeps early enough to wake up early and hearty. You don’t expect to be booed up with Netflix until 3am and then wake up at 5am rejuvenated. That’s mission impossible, unless you plan to have an unproductive day with a banging hangover to go with it.

    4. Get Adequate Rest And Sleep

Speaking of hangovers, I hope you’re aware that excessive alcohol intake is not the only causal factor for hangovers?

Having a busy day working your butt off with little or no breaks, and pulling all-nighters working on the computer is enough to start your day on an exhausting note (and that is definitely not a girl boss routine).

Since being a boss lady sums up into taking charge and being in control of your life, make sure that  influences your physical health and wellbeing too. Know when to rest and when to work.

It’s understandable that being a purpose-driven girl boss can have you bagging the world’s most busy woman award.  However, your daily activities if not put in check will have you overworking your body system. It is therefore your responsibility to make a habit of giving your body the proper rest and sleep it needs.

    5. Try To Do Away With Procrastination

Another of these premium girl boss habits that will change your life for good is ensuring you give no room for procrastination. Knowing what to do and when to do it should always be a top priority.  You’re a top gunner and being a top gunner means you can’t afford a slack in your schedule and plans.

I know it can be pretty hard to stick to schedules at times  especially when others are involved (no one is an island and most times, you can’t control other people’s decisions). However, the effects of procrastination are costlier than those of avoiding it.

Procrastination will make you blow opportunities, waste your time, lower your self esteem, make rushed and poor decisions, ruin your reputation and may even cost you your career.

Therefore, ensure you give “doing the right thing at the right time” your best shot. It’s a  wonderful girl boss habit to emulate and it will definitely give your life the change you need.

    6. Eat Well

Another girl boss habit you need to be familiar with and emulate is having a healthy diet. A busy schedule is a perfect excuse to ditch good foods for junk. It’s okay to want to eat burgers and cookies and hotdogs and down it all with a bottle of soda because you’re yet to collate the PowerPoints for the next presentation and lunchtime is too expensive to spare.

However, junk food will get you a feel good vibe this minute and you’ll be feeling bananas the next.  Moral of the story; they are only responsible for some minutes of sugar rush.

Eating healthy meals on the other hand, will not only give your body the adequate supply of nutrients it needs to be able to function well, it will also enhance your immune system,  improve your well-being, reduce high blood pressure, lower high cholesterol and improve your ability to recover from illness or injury.

Don’t forget, you are what you eat. A healthy diet equals a healthy body.  So make healthy eating a habit today!

    7. Cut Down On Frivolity

So far, we have talked about accountability with our time, wellbeing and decisions. Now it’s time we face our personal economies. Before reading further, kindly take some minutes to reflect on how you have managed your finances in the past few months.

I hope you are proud of your findings. One of the girl boss habits you have got to adopt is being responsible with every penny that you get to have. Learn to track your expenses, query your need to buy or spend no matter how much or little money is involved.

The truth is, you can’t outgrow the basics. If you can’t be accountable with your personal finances, how then will you be able to manage that of your organisation? Therefore, try to make sure your expenses are well tracked and your finances are perfectly managed.  It’s a great habit to cultivate.  That’s what girl bosses do!

    8. Have A Defined Use Of Media

Except you are a journalist, PR, blogger or any other media personnel, there is no reason why you should be on the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even if your work is related to any of the above mentioned, ensure you take time off and have some quiet time to yourself.

TV, the internet and other media platforms are full of noise. There are more negatives than positives on them. Loss of quality of life, lack of privacy, decreased safety and security, and harm to social relations are a few of the negative effects of excessive online presence.

Nevertheless, the internet has made access to information easy. It provides effective communication using emailing and instant messaging services to any part of the world and improves business interactions and transactions, saving on vital time.

Therefore, since they are necessary evils in our daily lives, ensure you strike a balance when it comes to their usage. Know when to withdraw their use and have some quiet to yourself every day.

Don’t be carried away by everything you see online, be mindful of what you watch and subscribe to. For instance, seeing tweets on failed marriages, cheating partners and serial breakups more often will have you subscribe to the “men/women are scum/true love does not exist” kind of banter. A girl boss does not do that.

    9. Be Organised

From having a well mapped out schedule and creating a clean workspace in your bedroom/study, to making sure no dirty dishes linger in the sink and tidying up the rest of the house, a girl boss sure knows  her way around leading a well organised lifestyle.

No matter how busy and rough your day or week might get, make sure you make time out to draw out schedules for the next day, clean up the house, do the dishes and your laundry and clear out items that are seldom useful to you.

If you’ve got an early morning, ensure your outfit of choice is readily available. It is also noteworthy that our environment has a way of influencing our mental and of course physical health.  You can’t expect much productivity in a disorganised environment.

A clumsy place equals a clumsy mind. To have a healthy girl boss lifestyle, ensure there’s no exemption of any of the above mentioned activities. It’s not always so effortless especially when exhaustion and fatigue from previous work and activities sets in.

However, try to make a habit of it. You can even do it alongside something fun like listening to music. That way, it will be less of a chore for you. Nevertheless, if you’re extremely tired or busy, there are a couple of cleaning services that the lady in distress can call to her rescue (only the bills might feel the strain though).

    10. Create Time For Reflection

The final girl boss habit to attain a better change in life is reflecting. At the end of each day and every passing week, ensure you do a reflective check on yourself.

It will help you identify how far you’ve come with achieving your purpose, which goals you’re yet to attain, what habit you need to change or emulate and ultimately how to be a better person.  Reflection is a great way to  help every girl boss strengthen their emotional intelligence, improve their self esteem and confidence.

It will also help you to make better decisions in the future. Surprised at how much having some quiet time alone to think about past actions and events can benefit you? Don’t be! Have a self reflection check today!

With a positive attitude, you will think more constructively and meaningfully. And, life will be a whole lot better.

Being a positive thinker is synonymous with being a believer. You’ll make moves that most people wouldn’t dare to make. You will take new paths and reach a particular destination you crave for.

Besides, you won’t be scared of any failure or setback that you might encounter. You will typically feel motivated to keep taking action!

So, the power of positive thinking is insurmountable!  As a positive thinker, you’re literally unstoppable.

    Positive Thinking Tips

The question now is; how do you develop this vital mindset? How do you become a positive thinker?

The key is; you have to shun being pessimistic. But how?

Well, in this article, I will highlight 15 positive thinking tips that will help you move your life from a pessimistic end to an optimistic end. Ladies and gentlemen, shall we?

    1. Start By Replacing The Negativity In Your Life

Want to develop a positive mindset? Then start shaking off negativity from your life. Be mindful of the thoughts you contain in your mind! Or the people you keep close to yourself.

Start by asking yourself; what are the 3 main streams of Negativity in my life? It could be a friend, or the books you read, the podcast you listen to, even the movies you watch or the blogs you visit! (No worries, you’re safe with this one.)

Whatever they are, once you are able to identify them (the 3 main sources of negativity), then start eliminating them.

How do you go about this?

First, generate ideas on how to limit the time you spend on those sources of negativity. Write down any idea(s) you come up with (this is necessary so you don’t forget easily). Then plan on how to execute those ideas.

Now, the next thing is to channel your valuable time to more positive things…

    2. Always Focus On The Good Side Of A Situation

Another great positive thinking tip is to always find the good side of any situation.

You see, the main difference between a positive-minded person and a pessimist is their perceptions! Their difference comes from how they view things and how they choose to understand.

Typically, pessimists will rather give up along the way when they face obstacles. They will see no reason to keep pushing. They will simply feel like the only alternative when they feel stuck is to quit.

But that’s not a thing for a positive thinker.

Positive thinkers are optimists. They always believe that there is a way out of any problem. A way to resolve any issue and keep pushing. They don’t simply back down.

If you really want to delve into the positive side of life, then you must find a way to stay up when life hits you hard. When faced with a negative situation, you have to focus on the positive side.

Did you lose a job? Remember you are alive and you can always get a new job with your qualifications. So, stay up and keep pushing.

Did you lose a friend or someone close to you? Sure, you still have the good memories to hold on to. Those good memories should be your consolation.

Just so you know, any negative situation can be handled if you learn how to focus on the good side.

Always find a way to stand up and stay up.

    3. Forgive Yourself

No matter how hard you try, sometimes your BEST might not be good enough. As a matter of fact, your failure might be due to inescapable circumstances or maybe as a result of your own mistake.

Sure, it’s normal to blame yourself for certain shortcomings, but don’t do it for long! If you really want to be positive, you have to learn how to forgive yourself and move on. Blaming yourself for so long and holding on to that failure will only lead to self-destruction.

    4. Give Yourself Some Credit

Due to frustration or dissatisfaction, we often forget the things we did right. We tend to focus on our inadequacies and feel like we are not good enough.

Well, if I must say, that is a very negative way of living! Just like you take the blame for being wrong, also learn to give yourself some credit for a little progress. You truly deserve it.

Even if you’ve messed up in certain aspects, you have to feel a bit complacent where you got them right. That’s a good way to stay motivated to even get better.

    Positive thinking tips

    5. Learn From Your Past Mistakes

Your past mistakes are not there for you to hold on to. They are there for you to learn from!

Our brains are wired to repeat what we find convenient. Now, if your mistakes happened because you got so comfortable, you might repeat those mistakes a thousand more times (where you failed to LEARN from them).

The past is gone. So, no matter how much that particular mistake hurts, you can’t change what happened.

You can only learn from the mistake by:

    • Understanding why it happened in the first place, and then
    • Changing the behavior that resulted in the mistake.

    6. List Your Strengths

Pessimism at times might force you to start thinking that you can’t do it, that you can’t achieve it. That the goal is too much for you to reach. Or that you don’t have what it takes…

    But no!

There are thousands of capacities inside of you, waiting to be triggered and explored. You have to remind yourself what you are capable of.

    I will give a little illustration;

Let’s say you are seeking a position in a reputable multinational firm, and your gut is letting you down, then you have to create a list of those strengths you’ve got; those certifications that qualify you for the position; those raw skills or talents you’ve got.

Also, list out the experiences you’ve gathered over the years. This will help you to focus on the reason why you will be hired. Not the reason why you won’t. And of course, that’s a typical way of being positive!

You’ll be motivated to take the bold step.

    7. Acknowledge Your Weaknesses

One of the best positive thinking tips is to admit your weaknesses. A positive-minded person always wants to improve. But there is no way you can ever improve if you don’t accept your shortcomings.

The advice here is that you have to take note of the things you are not good at, then work hard and improve on them.

This will make you a more sophisticated person. You’ll be well-versed and your confidence will improve. But remember, it all starts with acknowledging your shortcomings.

    8. Speak Positively

What you speak determines what you have in your mind. So, there is a strong connection between the words you speak and the kind of mindset you have.

A positive minded person will only speak positive words at all times. If you are used to negative speech, then get intentional about the words you speak.

Where you used to say; I can’t, learn how to start saying; I can. Where you used to say; it’s impossible, start saying; I see possibilities.

If you can start practicing positive speech, it won’t be long before you start thinking positively. Can I get an amen, somebody?

    9. Always Work Out

Experts suggest that working out does not only build your body but your mind as well. So, regular exercise won’t only make you shed some body weight. It also alleviates your mental burden!

When you’re drained mentally and a wave of negative feelings seems to occupy your mind, just 15-30 minutes of physical activities can go a long way to set your mind free.

Regular workouts will help in building your sense of determination. Also, with periodic exercises, you will start focusing on something else… Not just negative thoughts.

Exercising regularly is easily a positive habit that results in positive thinking.

    10. Stop Making A Big Deal Out Of Nothing

This is one issue many people have to deal with. There are certain insignificant incidents that we face at times but we end up making a big deal out of them.

You’re probably familiar with that feeling when you make a minor error (let’s say, at work), then you get so afraid it might cause the management to fire you. That’s a typical example of making a mountain out of a molehill.

This kind of behavior is typical of a pessimist. Don’t be that person anymore.

    11. Focus On The Present

Sometimes, concentrating on the present is all you need in order to discard any negative thoughts arising from the past or regarding the future.

A popular saying has it that; the past is gone, the future is yet to come, but the most valuable commodity you have is TODAY and that is why it is called PRESENT.

Therefore, learn to make the most of your present situation. Learn to concentrate on what happens in your life today. That’s one of the best positive thinking tips you should embrace.

    12.  Bring Positivity Into Other People’s Lives

The fact remains that; you get what you give.

If you really want to break free from the shackles of negative thoughts, then start by extending positive gestures to others. It’s just simple psychology.

When you light up other people’s lives, you’ll definitely feel good about yourself. And that pleasant feeling is bound to trigger the positive mindset in you.

To do this, start by helping those in need; not necessarily monetary help.

For instance, someone may be in need of your comfort or companionship during hard times. Surely, if they can rely on you in such situations, they will value you. Consequently, you’ll value yourself a little bit more too.

    13. Take Things Slowly

Going fast in life seems all nice and cool. But going too fast is negative. When lots of things start happening in your life because of too much haste, it often doesn’t end well.

In such situations, you start having accumulated stress both physically and mentally. You won’t be prudent enough to judge right. You’ll lose your acumen. And most likely, lots of negative thoughts and emotions will flood your mind.

It’s nobody’s fault but yours. You rush a lot!

Learn to calm down a bit and take things gradually. This way, you’ll be meticulous enough to make the right decisions in life.

    14. Start Your Day On A Good Note

How you start your day goes a long way to determine the outcome of your entire day. This might sound bizarre, but it’s true.

For that reason, always start your day on a positive note.

Some helpful ways to start your day are:

    • Walk up to the mirror and tell yourself something positive
    • Reminisce and ponder on any useful information that will positively affect your day
    • Engage in early morning exercise
    • Listen to a motivational podcast or video
    • Make your bed
    • Declutter quickly
    • Meditate/Pray

Ensure you practice some (if not all) of these every morning. There is no positive thinking tip that can be more useful than starting your day well.

    15. Seek To Be Positively Inspired

Yes. One of the best ways to change from pessimism to optimism is by seeking inspiration from positive sources.

You can find yourself a mentor who will inspire you to think positively. You can read motivational books or listen to inspirational podcasts.

There are various other ways you can get inspired positively. Just seek such inspirations and you will surely break into the positive realm of life.

    Final thoughts

Applying all these positive thinking tips might not be all that easy (actually, not easy at all) because it has to do with a shift of mindset. But no matter how difficult it might be, once you get intentional about actualizing that shift, it will become a lot easier!

  • How To Visualize Success In Order To Achieve The Results You Want

How To Visualize Success In Order To Achieve The Results You Want

Visualization is an age-long practice.  It’s something many people do. But not everyone actually does it the right way. Hence, they come up with little or no results. However, most successful people you know today are quite good at it! They use visualization as a mechanism to achieve the results they crave. Today I’ll share some tips on how to visualize success correctly to help you achieve your goals.

Footballers, gymnasts, musicians, entrepreneurs, writers, speakers, actors, you name it; it’s visualization that helps them to reach the next level in their careers. It’s what they envision that propels them to take a step forward!

At this point, you might be asking the question; what is visualization?

    Well, it’s all about foresight.

When you visualize, you imagine having reached a destination you intend to reach. You envision achieving certain goals you’ve set. And of course, it becomes more feasible for you to actualize those desired results.

As a matter of fact, when you visualize, you actualize. That’s how it works.

Now, I’m sure you’re eager to find out how to do this. Fret no more, let’s dive right in!

    Follow Me on Pinterest

    1. Decide What You Want

The very first step you have to take is to decide. What difference exactly do you intend to make in the near future?

Once you provide the answer to this question, then that’s what you want. And that is to say; you’ve started the mission of visualizing your success.

Moreover, while trying to figure out your destiny, you shouldn’t focus on your past. Don’t allow the present situations to weigh you down.

In order to get intentional about what you want for your future, you have to write down those aspirations on paper. They are your goals. And they will give your life a sense of direction and purpose.

    2. Imagine Having It

You will agree with me that visualization is all about dreams. Now, in order to get real with those fantasies, you have to imagine that you’re living it…

To make it easier, just try to imagine that you’ve already gotten that result you crave for. In other words, that decision you made (in step one above); just imagine that you have arrived at that destination you aspire to.

See it as if you’ve achieved that goal and that you are living in that future. Absorb that feeling even if the results are not yet there. That’s what a positive mindset is all about.

Sure, it might seem a bit bizarre (okay, a lot bizarre). But then it’s very important that you take this step. Because it is one thing to have a dream and another to actualize it.

And there is no better way to actualize your dreams than to have the feeling of living those dreams from this moment.

It is called “Feeling the feeling of success even when you are yet to get there.” (Yeah, I coined that.)

Remember, the human body finds it difficult to differentiate between fake and real feelings which is why you feel so scared watching a horror movie even when you know it’s not real. The same thing can be applied to the feeling you have about your future; once you imagine that you have it now, then you will feel the impact on your body immediately.

Adopting this particular strategy will simply cut that rope that demarcates your dreams from your reality, and hence, it will be easier to get the results you want.

    How To Visualize Success

    3. Practice The Thought of Having It Already

Now that you have the thought and mindset of having it, the next step is to practice that thought. At this point in time, you are about to get practical with your goals, your ambition, and above all your destination… So expect it to be scary!

Of course, most times, we feel so hysteric when we are faced with a new practical challenge; especially the ones we have no clue about.

Once you decide to take that big step that could change your identity, you might experience that feeling of impostor syndrome. You will feel like you are not good enough, and that perhaps you are just going too far.

That is why your brain will likely tremble over practicing that thought of having it already. If you feel this way, it’s actually normal. And as a matter of fact, it indicates that you are heading in the right direction.

But, be bold. Because, it’s not just about knowing how to visualize success, it’s about practicing it!

You’ve developed that thought and feeling of having it, right? Now is the time to practice that feeling. Now is the time to behave like a successful person.

Let all your actions (right now) be in line with the actions you’d take if you were already successful. That is the best way to obtain your dream results this very moment.

    4. Look For Moments of Serendipity

This is simply an unintended but fortunate moment of discovery. Looking for such a moment in the right way will have a remarkable impact on your life.

The actual result might not come through immediately when you start visualization. However, you will definitely experience some surprising changes along the way!

Just look out for such surprises.

Of course, by doing so, things will begin to happen differently. You will discover ways to simplify things and get good results. And hence, you won’t work too hard but too smart.

    5. Practice Visualization

Do you want to really learn how to visualize success? Then start practicing it every day. It’s as simple as that. Don’t just wait for that right moment to visualize, make it a habit.

It won’t take much of your time to make this activity a routine. Somewhere between 15 to 30 minutes (every day) will do. And it is actually a fun-filled activity because it gives you the opportunity to peer into a pleasant future.

I’m sure you feel great whenever you fantasize about something good about the future? Well, that’s the exact feeling this practice will offer you.

Moreover, it is very positive to visualize a successful future because if you don’t,  you will be left with no option than to visualize sad failures in the past. Which is the exact opposite of what you’re trying to achieve!

    Final thoughts

Visualizing success is a very healthy practice. It helps you to start living in success instead of dwelling on failure.

Once you learn how to visualize success, you will move in a positive direction. This is because instead of regenerating your past failure, your brain will direct your focus towards creating a successful future, and hence, you will design for yourself the exact life you want to live!

Your actions will simply go right instead of wrong and the best results will follow.

    1. They practice gratitude

Gratitude is the quality of being grateful. To the heart, gratitude is like a medicine. In fact, gratitude is so important that meditational exercises aren’t complete without them. And, successful women understand this.

    So, they hack the benefits.

When you practice gratitude, you will find yourself automatically focusing on the things that bring joy into your life, while ignoring the heartaches that come with life.

The truth is that no one has a perfect life. There will always be some form of insufficiencies here and there, whether emotionally, financially, or physically. However, the good news is that life is but a fleeting moment. If there will always be some form of heartache while you live, of what use is living in depression and ingratitude all your life?

Successful women understand this thoroughly, and so they practice it.

    How can you do it?

    Simple!

Every morning, before beginning your day, get a piece of paper and a pen. Write down 3 things you are grateful for in your career, and then, another 3 things in your personal life. Any time you feel sad or down during the day, refer to this list. Let it be your light in the time of darkness.

    How does this help?

Through gratitude, you develop a positive mindset. And with a positive mindset, you become more fruitful and productive!

    2. They set goals and stick to them

Another habit of successful women is the ability to set goals. And not just setting goals, but also following them through. Setting a goal is the first step to turning the invisible into the visible. Through goal setting, successful women have clear-cut targets. These targets give them a sense of direction; a well-designed path to follow on the way to success.

Now to you! Ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve in the next 12 months? Where do I want to be?”

No! Don’t attempt to keep them in your head. Write these targets down.

    Done?

Now, think of ways through which you could achieve these goals. Yep, it is that easy. That’s one of the simplest habits of successful women.

    3. They are constantly working on self-improvement

A definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again – and expecting a different result. The truth is, success is intentional. No one is successful by chance or luck.

One of the key habits of successful women is the willingness to continuously improve themselves. Whether it is their spiritual, financial, emotional, or mental intelligence, successful women make sure there is always an addition to their abilities.

This way they build capacity for success.

    4. They make their health and exercise a priority

Never try overworking yourself. If the goal is maximum productivity, you must learn to take your health seriously. Successful women understand that health is wealth. And, health is truly wealth. An active and healthy mind is always more fruitful (compared to a dull one).

Here’s an action tip: Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Also, exercise your body for 30 minutes every day.

    5. They are morning angels

One of the most obvious habits of successful women is waking early. Since the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, taking charge of the morning automatically means winning the day.

Successful women understand this, and that’s why they get up very early in the morning. Whether it is to crunch a project, or set plans for the day, they conquer their morning. And consequently, have a splendid day!

    6. They know when to take a break

Successful women understand the importance of breaks. Work isn’t everything, and they know this. Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is just to relax. There are times when you will have  to carry out certain tasks, however, the cognitive and emotional strengths will be lacking.

During these times, always step back from work and take a break.

    7.They never give up

Let’s face the harsh reality of life; the road will not always be smooth! Success has many bus-stops, and one of them is failure.

    Yes, successful women fail.

    And fail again…

    And again…

    And again…

However, they never give up. Afar off, they stare at their goals and do all it takes to take hold of it.  A successful woman would never accept failure and let the weight of the world bring her down! In the wake of adversity, successful women persevere.

If you want to be like them, acquire this habit too – you would be needing it!

    8. They surround themselves with like-minded people

A successful woman knows the importance of having like-minded people around her. In this sense, like-minded people are people who share similar goals and ambitions with her. This not only keeps her positive, but it also motivates her to become a better version of herself.

    You too!

Make sure the people around you are making you grow. If not, disassociate yourself from them and find some new company.

    9. They are financial savvy

They build themselves to attract money. However, they also know how to keep the money. Here’s a truth most people will never tell you: To be rich, it is not about how much money you make, but how much money you can keep.

Successful women apply this. So, when building their empire, they also equip themselves with the needed skills to sustain it. Financial intelligence is the key to getting rich. Get it!

    10. Successful women communicate well

It goes without saying that we are in the information age. Consequently, money flows where there is information. However, it isn’t enough to have this information, you must also learn the act of communicating it.

Effective communication skills are one of the skills successful women acquire. Through this, they tend to build lasting relationships.

    11. Successful women fall in love with the process

Another pro tip: the joy from accomplishment isn’t gotten from success itself, but from the process.

Although success is majorly result-based, a successful woman allows herself to sink into the process because it allows her to blossom and grow.  She loves the learning moments; the hard times and the easy ones.

All in all, she allows the process to mold her into what she wants to be. So, when next you see a successful woman, don’t check only the result, but also study the process she took.

    12. Minimize distractions

Whether it is the television or text notifications, distractions are distractions. Distractions only divert your attention from what truly matters to something less important. This way, they keep you from staying on track.

Successful women know that to achieve or maintain success, they must always show up for themselves at all times. When it is time for work, they put aside any device – or person – that could be a potential source of distraction.

Distraction, in itself, could come in the form of a legitimate event such as a social gathering with friends, or an extremely ridiculous one such as spending all day on Twitter.

Either way, I repeat, distractions are distractions. Anything that causes your eye to shift from your goals is a distraction. Put it away. This is one of the habits of successful women that may seem miniscule but is actually very important.

    13. Successful women do important tasks first

    Not all tasks are equal.

In case you aren’t aware, some are less important than others. This fact is irrefutable along with the human race. However, the flexible area of this fact is the difference in ‘what really matters’ to everyone.

Successful women come up with a scale of preference. Most times, activities that are more in line with their goals are put above the rest.

    14. They are compassionate and kind

    ‘What goes around comes around.’

Even though that might sound a little cliché, successful women pay heed to the intricate details of that quote. Simply put, they practice what they would love to receive.

In this case, all of them are really kind and compassionate. Being empathic enough to decipher the moods of people and how to approach situations, they grow their relationships into what they want it to be.

The old view of being ruthless to succeed is gone!

    15. Successful women build a killer network

Relationships are the currency of the 21st century. Successful women do everything within their means to continuously build their network. Instead of shutting everyone out, they welcome people in. Instead of being ruthless and inconsiderate, they are kind and understanding.

These and many more qualities, foster the building of good relationships and hence, a killer network. So, stop acting like you can do it all by yourself. The way up, actually, is consciously building a network of professionals and like-minds.

    16. They are not afraid of failure

Failure inspires winners. Failure discourages losers. That is the slang of successful women. Sooner or later, you are going to fail.

If you want to be as successful as these women, you must move into a winner’s mindset.

    17. They are good listeners

A major skill needed for effective communication is an attentive ear. A successful woman listens. She does so not because she is obliged to, but because she wants to understand others’ standpoint.

By doing this, she gets inspired by their successes and learns from their failures. By learning from others, she becomes better herself and positively influences those around her.

    18. I can, I can, I can.

Those are the words of a successful woman. Successful women never give up. Neither are they discouraged by a seemingly insurmountable mountain. Instead, they push. Beyond the obstacle, they push. Until they reach their goal, they push.

The phrase, ‘I can’t’ isn’t found in a successful woman’s library. Instead, she looks for ways to make a door out of a rock.

Ever persistent, ever courageous, ever brave.

    19. Successful women dedicate time to get their lives organized

Nope, they don’t jump into the day just like that. A successful woman understands the impact of her environment on her mental health. So, she dedicates time every day to keep her surroundings tidy.

The dishes and laundry must always be taken care of. Also, she makes sure her room, home, and office-environment are well-kept. This way, she has the cognitive and mental ability to focus on important tasks of the day without getting bogged down by the environment.

    20. Successful women never stop reading and learning

They read, learn, and take action. Read, learn, and take action.

And the cycle goes on and on.

Successful women are never tired of the learning process. Since taking action is the greatest way to learn, they constantly take action. Whenever she is ignorant about a subject matter, a successful woman asks questions and goes out of her way to educate herself.

    For you

It is your turn to become a successful woman too! I want to remind you that it is okay if you haven’t developed these habits. In fact, if you could read this piece to the end, there is an iota of a successful woman inside of you.

So, train her – constantly monitor yourself; always check to see that these habits are in place.

    You can do it too.

You can become a successful woman too.

How To Be Happy In Life Despite Your Circumstances

The truth is, everyone wants to be happy. That’s why we do all we can to discover the means to be happy.  But happiness is a choice. Today I’ll share some tips on how to be happy in life no matter where you find yourself in your life journey.

We are wrong about many things we believe about happiness. Most of the places we go, or the things we do, or even the ideas we buy do not guarantee happiness.

For instance, we all want to be successful in everything we do, in order to be happy. But in reality, we just CAN’T be successful in every aspect of life… There are so many attempts we make that are bound to fail. For that reason, we fail to find happiness in our quest for success!

    Moreover, many of us also chase money by virtually every means all in the hope of finding true happiness in it. Yes, we become happier with the more money we make but such happiness is usually short-lived because;

    • While we make money, we also lose money every day and that doesn’t bring happiness.
    • Even when we keep making money, there are problems money doesn’t solve. In that case, nothing like happiness.
    • Money brings you comfort but also makes you uncomfortable because you will be worried about how to ensure you never go broke again. Research has it that rich people have sleepless nights more than average people. Now, does that depict happiness?
    • Nobody is seemingly satisfied with the amount he has. The more money you make, the more you want. You can’t call this happiness!

Besides the ill sides of money, there are many other reasons why you are simply wrong to think that money or success bring true happiness… Because true happiness is not short-lived. It is not a destination, it is also not a permanent state of feeling good. Happiness is not materialistic.

Moreover, in order to have real happiness, you have to intentionally make efforts to address all the areas of your life that can trigger your feelings and emotions.

    Practice Gratitude

More often than not, people insinuate that they will be happy if they acquire something or if a certain thing happens. Unfortunately, that is not the case because happiness doesn’t depend on material or immaterial things.

Have you ever heard that happiness is bought?

    Nah, it can’t be!

Sure, when something pleasant is added to your life, you’re bound to be happy about it. But the question is, will such happiness be sustained?

The only way you can acquire sustainable joy is when you are grateful for the things you’ve got already and stay content with them. This way, you’ll realize that those material things are not essential for your happiness. Hence, your source of happiness will become innate.

    Now, let’s be practical;

Think about those things you really desire to have… The fact that you don’t have them is enough to make you unhappy. But also, think about what you already have at hand that you are grateful for, I’m sure that makes you happier?

That’s exactly what the power of gratitude is all about. A grateful man is a happier man but a man whose happiness depends on obtaining more has a greater tendency to be sad. Because there is no guarantee that you’d get all you want in life! At least, not without working towards it.

    Do Away With Negative Thoughts

We are all familiar with those waves of negative thoughts or emotions that run across our minds at times…

Now, note this; such emotions or thoughts are the greatest enemies of a happy life! Once you can deal with them, then your happiness is assured!

It might interest you to know that negative thoughts are inescapable as long as life is concerned. It’s normal to have such moments. However, you don’t have to give it room to linger for long. You must learn how to deal with it if you must be happy.

Harbouring any negative thought or emotion for long will definitely affect how you act and feel over time. Of course, you don’t want this.

    Walk Away From Toxic Relationships

Sometimes, the people you hang around with can influence your emotions. They play a big role in your happiness or sadness. Do you doubt that?

Okay, how do you feel after spending time with your friends or colleagues who have negative things to say about you? Pretty hurt, I guess. Compare that to the feeling you get when you are around those who have words of motivation and encouragement to offer you. Uplifting, yes?

That’s exactly why you have to be careful about who you let into your circle!

Sure, in life, you will have different kinds of people interacting with you at different times, however, you must be smart enough to know what’s good for you. Remember, it’s all about your happiness.

Therefore, don’t hesitate to walk away from that toxic relationship. That’s exactly how to be happy in life!

    Practice Self Love

There is no way you can stay happy if you don’t love yourself, because true happiness stems from love. And if you must exhibit love generally, you must start by loving yourself. If you’re of the mindset that you’re not good enough, then you have to start giving yourself some credit. If you can’t, who then do you expect to appreciate you the way you deserve?

As a matter of fact, in order to learn how to be happy in life, you must start by being happy with who you are. Treat yourself with love, just like you want others to treat you!

It’s not selfish to love yourself, it’s just a way to set an example to others on how they should treat you. If you fail to love yourself unconditionally, there is no way you’ll find true happiness from any other source.

    Be Yourself

We all have our uniqueness and peculiarities, and for that, we have to be ourselves the best way we can.

It really doesn’t matter if you agree with me on this, but nobody is perfect. While you sit and watch someone else who seems to be too good, always have in mind that such a person has his or her own downside.

Having that in mind, you must learn how to be yourself and not someone else. Know who you are and become better at whatever you do. Be the best version of yourself because that’s what self-actualization entails.

One way to start practicing this is to learn how to focus on you and not others. Don’t always feel the need to impress others. Rather, you should be more concerned about being you, getting better, and living authentically.

    Discover Your Purpose

One of the best ways to discover how to be happy in life is to find out your life’s purpose.

As far as life is concerned, there are certain capacities inside us that need to be unlocked. In other words, there are lots of potentials you must explore. And unless you unlock those capacities and discover those potentials, then you can’t boldly say that you’ve found your purpose on earth.

For instance, you might have certain activities you’re passionate about (things that give you joy and the sense of fulfilment once you do them); be it writing, singing, sport, teaching, etc. Those are probably in line with your purpose in life.

Once you are unhappy at your place of work, then there is a big possibility you’re in the wrong place. No one is unhappy if what he/she is doing is the exact purpose of their existence!

There is this genuine happiness that comes with doing what you love to do. When you find out that you are living your purpose on earth, it brings an unending satisfaction.

However, remember that your purpose doesn’t have to be narrowed down to a particular thing. They can be as many as whatever you do that give you peace of mind.

    Render Help To Others

There is a popular notion which points out that we rise when we lift other people. Similarly, when you render help, you will be happier.

Your question now might be; how will “helping others” make me happy?

    Here is how it works:

When you help others by giving them your time, resources, or care, it definitely makes them happy. And they will appreciate you. You will feel great when people appreciate your kind gestures.

But mind you, helping others doesn’t mean you should be a people-pleaser. After all, you are only helping them out of your own magnanimity, not because you are compelled to do so.

When it becomes part of you to help others, your confidence keeps growing with every problem you solve. It gives you that awesome feeling of being useful. And hence, as a habitual helper, your happiness and satisfaction in life will be habitual as well.

    Makes sense, right?

    Adopt A Healthy Lifestyle

Surely, there are ways of life, habits, attitudes, or behaviours that will definitely not encourage a happy life. For instance, when you encounter one of those normal sad moments in life and decide to cure it with alcohol, that’s a good way to damage yourself slowly (especially when you make it a habit).

For the record, abusing alcohol (or other hard drugs) as a remedy for sadness has been found to be the major cause of domestic violence, depression, and even suicide!

If you really want to deal with those hard times, you can listen to music, read certain books that can uplift you, engage in certain exercises or physical activities and so much more. Such are healthy lifestyles for you.

Similarly, another healthy activity you should consider initiating is sleeping enough. It’s very unhealthy for you to deprive yourself of sleep. When you sleep between 6 to 8 hours every night, you will wake up happier and stronger the next morning.

To add to this, you must also eat healthily. Ration your dietary and nutritional intake. Excessive calories (fats and carbohydrates) aren’t good for your health. Copy that?

Experts suggest instead that adding more fruits and veggies to your diet will make you stronger. Moreover, ensure your diet is quite balanced! Remember, a healthy lifestyle will keep you physically and mentally strong and of course, that’s a pretty straightforward way to be happy in life.

    Learn To Let Go

Sometimes holding on to things that are needless can make you an unhappy fellow. Learn to let go of certain things you obviously can’t change. You will be happier and relieved:

    • Let go of fear and anxiety.
    • Learn to let go of resentment and regrets.
    • Let go of uncertainties and doubts.
    • Avoid comparisons. Your life isn’t their life!
    • Forget the past and be more focused on the present and the future.

By letting go, I can assure you that you’ll feel better as a person.

    Meditate Often

One of the wisest men that ever lived once suggested that an unexamined life isn’t worth it. According to him, to live such a life is vain. And yep, I agree with him. In order to live a meaningful life, you need to create time to reflect and ponder.

The question now is, how will meditation make you happy?

Well, when you meditate, you condition your brain to enter a peaceful mode and hence, your worries will be reduced. This is because, through meditation, you will be calm enough to connect to yourself and become more aware of yourself.

It might interest you to know that self-awareness gives you the opportunity to understand your individuality better. Of course, that’s exactly what you need to be happy in life.

    Final thoughts

Everything you’ve learned so far is very vital for a happy life. However, you need to always bear in mind that happiness is nothing but a choice. Therefore, in order to experience sustainable happiness in life, the basic step you must take is to DECIDE to be happy, regardless of your circumstances.
